Hi Anne-Marie

There is no automatic right to free precriptions following ill health retirement. There are the age specific criteria and certain long term conditions that qualify some people. You could apply for help with health costs and to do this you need to get hold of an HC1 form, (some dental surgeries, pharmacies, health centres etc have them or failing that a Job Centre). If you meet the income criteria you may receive entitlement to all or some help with prescription costs, dental treatment, sight tests and one or two other bits and bobs!

Worth applying for if you feel you might meet the criteria as health costs very quickly mount up!

My son, Ian, completed the BUPA Great North Run on 15th September running for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS). You can read his story at http://www.justgiving.com/ianlukewilson
